Reader’s Question:

I recently got into a DWI checkpoint and received a ticket for Provisional DL because I was driving after 12 midnight. I would like to know what the penalties are for this? I am from New Jersey.

Mark

Elizabeth, NJ

The New Jersey Driver’s Manual states that holders of GDL Permits or Provisional licenses may receive a $100 fine for any GDL conditions violations.

It is possible that there be other penalties but you will need to contact the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission or the court listed on your citation or to know the exact penalties for driving past the curfew time related to your license type.

So be aware that there may be changes also to the NJ graduated licensing system in the upcoming years because of the recommendations the Governor’s group has made in their report.

Reader’s Question:

Is there a mandatory suspension for operating a vehicle without insurance or is it up to the court system or county’s judge?

Michelle

Elizabeth, NJ

Driving without insurance in New Jersey is a serious offense as well as in most areas. The penalty for this offense varies from state to state however this can include large fines, impounding of your vehicle (and payment of storage and towing charges incurred), license suspension or revocation, community service or jail time. In most states, such as New Jersey, the mandatory penalties for an individual found driving without insurance are even greater than those for an individual receiving a DUI citation for the first time.

This is regulated by each state.

Likely you will also have to comply with the state’s financial responsibility laws by obtaining an SR22 financial responsibility certificate or SR16.

New Jersey SR-22

Q: I’m looking for another car since my last one broke down. Do I need to have New Jersey SR-22 insurance right now? It might take me a couple months to get another car.

A: Every car must be insured, so long as somebody owns it, and the responsibility for the insurance rest on the person in whose name the car is. You have to carry New Jersey SR-22 insurance on your broken down vehicle, even if you can’t actually use it, until you transfer the title over to a new owner.

Also remember that if you decide to let go of your New Jersey SR-22 insurance, then your license will be suspended, because you have to have an SR22 to keep your license, even if you never step foot in a car.

While you’re searching for a new car, make sure you get one which will allow you to get better rates on your New Jersey SR-22 car insurance policy. Avoid big cars and small cars, and instead try to get one whose size is somewhere in the middle. Get something a few years old, but not too old so as to be lacking safety features.

New Jersey SR22

Q: How can I improve my credit so I can save money on my New Jersey SR22 insurance?

A: The first thing you should do if you’re interested in improving your credit history to save money on your New Jersey SR22 policy is for you to go to each of the three credit reporting agencies and get a copy of your credit report. You’re allowed one free copy of each of these once a year, and after that you have to pay for them. Now, look at your information and get everything you need for the debts listed. If you have any which you do not believe should be there, or if some of your debts are from the right places but the numbers are wrong, you can write to the credit reporting agency to have it investigated and possibly removed from your report.

In order to improve your report, you will need to start paying off your debts. There are two things you can do: if you have a bunch of little debts, you can pay those off first so that you can get them out of the way, or you can tackle the debt which has the fastest growing interest first so that it doesn’t get bigger on you. Make sure you check your credit reports for innaccuracies once or twice a year.

Cheap NJ SR22 insurance

Q: How can I find cheap NJ SR22 insurance?

A: One of the most tried and true ways of coming across cheap NJ SR22 insurance is for you to actively start searching out car insurance companies and comparing their rates. You can do this easily online, and it’s the best way for you to find a company which will give you the cheapest deal. You can also employ an agent to compare companies for you. Absolutely the first thing you must do, before even thinking about discounts, is comparison shop car insurance companies.

One of the reasons why this is so imporant is that a majority of people in this counrty pay more on their car insurance premiums than they would have if they had shopped around before selling on a car insurance company. Differences between companies are not small. In fact, the average amount that an American loses on car insurance coverage which could be regained by getting a wider range of quotes is four hundred dollars. Consider what you could do with an exrta four hundred dollars every six months, and also consider that some people pay as much as eight hundred too much on their premium. It goes beyond geing cheap NJ SR22 insurance.
