I was thinking I live in GA now, but I would like to move to NJ, how would I go about changing my auto insurance and would the insurance rate be lower or higher? How do I go about getting a New Jersey car insurance quote so I can compare rates?

Jenny

Camden, NJ

When changing auto insurance polices it is best to purchase your new insurance policy before terminating your old one so that you do not have a lapse in insurance coverage. When moving it the best time to do comparison shopping, which you can do online by getting a New Jersey auto insurance quote.

That being said insurance in New Jersey has been said to be costly because of number of claims filed annually in that New Jersey. However, to obtain an accurate quote it will depend on your personal information and where in New Jersey you would plan on residing.

For New Jersey auto insurance, you must buy insurance through a carrier that is authorized to do business in that New Jersey. The Three types of mandatory insurance in New Jersey are: Liability insurance, Uninsured Motorist and Personal Injury Protection (PIP).

I was dropped from my insurance carrier in Union City, NJ. Since then I have been shopping for a new car insurance quote while still using my vehicle to go to work. I then got in a accident on my way home but It was not my fault. What penalties do I face then?

George

Union City, NJ

Driving without car insurance or not being able to provide proof of car insurance in New Jersey when requested is a serious violation. A citation for this offense of the NJ law may result in community service, fines, suspension of license and surcharges.

Though you were just in between getting car insurance policies in Union City, NJ it is important not to operate the vehicle to work or to obtain an insurance policy if you do not have insurance on your vehicle. Instead of driving to the insurance office you should try buying an insurance policy online so that you can print out proof of car insurance at your house and are not tempted to drive without having your car properly insured. You can actually start shopping for auto insurance quote here by typing in your zip code in Union City, NJ.

So if you were injured in an accident, though it was not your fault, because you were driving without car insurance you cannot make an insurance claim or file a lawsuit against the at-fault party for economic or non-economic losses.

I hate it. I got a beat up old car that this stupid car insurance companies in Newark, New Jersey would not insure. Is that even legal?

Elaine

Newark, NJ

Easy girl, easy. I totally understand where you are coming from and I empathize with you, as a matter of fact. Did that auto insurance agent even tell you the reason why they are declining your application for an auto insurance coverage? Why don’t you go back to the auto insurance company that you contacted and talk to the agent? Ask him the reason he wouldn’t give you one. There are a lot of reasons why someone might be denied car insurance coverage. It suddenly crossed my mind that maybe your old beat up car is not the reason you are getting denied because I’ve heard of some people who were not given coverage because of their very poor driving record. If you’ve been getting into accidents all over the place and have been making claims all the time, the car insurance companies would hesitate to insure you since you’re classified as a high-risk driver, which entails a higher likelihood of them shelling out money. However, what you can do is ask around for vehicle insurance companies there in Newark, New Jersey that will take on higher-risk drivers. You might be asked to pay higher premiums, but then again, it’s better than driving around without coverage.

Reader’s Question:

I’ m about to get my own car and I’m currently planning to get automobile insurance, too. I’m wondering how to go about this since I am still living with my family here at Jersey City and my brother would most likely borrow my car every once in a while. Do I need to insure him as well?

Gian

Jersey City, NJ

Hi Gian, it’s good that you are also thinking about the welfare of your brother, and it’s nice that you are open to sharing your car with him. Have you selected any insurance company yet there at Jersey City, NJ? It would be best if you do research first before signing any papers so that you know what you’re getting into.

First of all, you need to know that your brother also needs an auto insurance policy, especially if you’re expecting him to drive your car. Every driver has to be insured because part of a driver’s responsibility is its liability to others in case there’s a road mishap. You may also have to list all the possible drivers of vehicle, especially those to whom your car would be “regularly available.” This may include every member of your family who is of legal age, whether with a driver’s license or with a learner’s permit. This is mainly due to the fact that premium computations are based on different factors such as the number of drivers of your vehicle and their respective ages. However, if you are getting a comprehensive, third party property motor vehicle insurance, there is no need to list the drivers who have learner’s permits as that data wouldn’t be necessary.

Reader’s Question:

Jenny here. Just moved here to Newark, NJ. I got engrossed with fixing stuff, buying things for the house and all that that I did not notice that my car insurance lapsed. Can I still get a new auto insurance? is that going to be a huge problem?

jenny

Newark, NJ

Greetings, Jenny who fixes stuff and buy things and forgets about the car insurance. of course, you can still get a new car insurance, providing, of course, that the car was not totaled and was sitting in the garage when the insurance expired. If so, getting a new insurance would be much harder. But if that is not the case, getting insurance will be comparatively easier. it would take a few more steps than usual, tap dancing here and there, but it can happen. Some companies have slightly differing rules when it comes to insuring a lapsed “insuree.” Some companies would have a waiting time before they cover you. For example, some companies would need 30 days before giving you a quotation. A company with this rule would probably use this time to verify first what type of customer you would be. They would check if you pay your premiums on time, if you’re habitually late.

Background check, those kinds of stuff. business is business. Car insurance insure cars, that’s what they do. You have an insurable car, you sound like a responsible motorist, you will be insured. Look around Newark, NJ, I am pretty sure lots of companies would love to do business with you.

Reader’s Question:

I have auto insurance coverage here in New Jersey, and I have some members of my family that can drive included in the policy, as well. Now, if a member who’s not listed there gets in an accident, what’s going to happen?

Armand

Edison, NJ

Now, this is going to depend on the details of your auto insurance policy, the fine prints. Some auto insurance companies would automatically include all the members of your household on your policy. That way, if somebody gets in an accident like in the situation you gave, he or she will be automatically covered by the policy. This is very convenient. Now, there are other auto insurance companies that would ask you to list down all the members of your family that can drive and explicitly include them in the auto insurance policy. It would have to be explicit. The ones not listed in the auto insurance policy will not be covered. Again, we have to stress the importance of reading and understanding the policy. Or you can ask your auto insurance agent in New Jersey about this.

However, just to be really sure about this, make sure that you include everyone in your household that can drive. I think anticipating the ones that will be getting their driver’s license within the policy period will be a good idea. Ask your insurance agent about this type of inclusion. This may raise your auto insurance premium a bit because you will be including a teenager or somebody with minimal driving experience in your auto insurance policy, but this will make sure that everyone in your family or household will be covered by your auto insurance policy.

Reader’s Question:

After such a long time of convincing my mom, she has already agreed to buy her own car so that she could drive around here in New Jersey. Are there cheap vehicle insurance policies for senior citizens that are available online?

Tamara

Elizabeth, NJ

Searching for the best vehicle insurance should not be too much of a hassle now since the world is getting smaller with the presence of the Internet. It also saves time, money and effort if you just go online, check out Web sites of vehicle insurance companies and do transactions with them. You just have to look for a reliable vehicle insurance company that is recognized by New Jersey’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Now, to answer your question, of course, there are cheap vehicle insurance policies for senior citizens that are available online. You just have to seek out the best policy that would best fit your mom’s needs. Since she is already a senior citizen, she should be able to enjoy the money she has worked hard for her entire life. What you have to do is just visit some Web sites and ask for instant quotes. Vehicle insurance companies’ web sites have this kind of service, which they give for free. You are not required to buy their vehicle insurance policy just because you asked for an instant quote for your mom’s vehicle insurance.

Furthermore, you can lower your mom’s vehicle insurance premium by taking advantage of discounts that are available for female drivers and senior citizens. This would greatly help you on reducing the amount of what you are going to pay for.

But just remember to take extra precaution in dealing with the vehicle insurance companies. This is because, as in real life, you can never be too sure with the people you are transacting with since this is your money and your mom’s protection that you are involving here.

I hope I was of some help. Good luck, and I hope you find that cheap vehicle insurance for your mom.

My vehicle was stolen and the auto insurance paid the actual value of the vehicle. Last week I got a report that it was recovered. Will the insurance company in Jersey City, New Jersey take back the amount they paid, or they will assume possession of the vehicle?

Robert

Jersey City, NJ

Insurance carrier’s guidelines and insurance policy terms in Jersey City, NJ differ normally if your car insurance claim for the stolen car was finalized before the car is recovered then you would keep the settlement for the ACV of the vehicle and the insurance carrier would take possession of the car.

As part of the settlement process usually you sign over your title of the stolen car to the insurance carrier so that in the event the vehicle is recovered by police officer they will then be able to take possession of the vehicle and sell it at an auction, to recoup the monies they paid out to you for the settlement of your car comprehensive claim.

If the vehicle is not badly damaged and you wish to have it back then you could speak with your insurance carrier’s claim department or car insurance adjuster if it is possible to buy back the car from them for salvage value. Always remember that usually the vehicle would have to have a branded title of salvage since it was totaled out from being stolen.

You can ask your car insurance agent or insurance claims adjuster more information about your situation and also get consumer advice from your state’s insurance regulatory body.

How do I find good SR22 DUI auto insurance rates here in New Jersey?

Sybil

Newark, NJ

Good question. Easily one of the best ways to find great SR22 insurance rates is by doing a search online. There are many car insurance portals that also specializes in SR22 insurance coverage which can give you timely and accurate SR22 insurance rate quotes and information. In fact, this website is one such car insurance portal that can help you search for the most competitive SR22 rates and policies available.

Among the benefits of using online SR22 insurance websites is the convenience it offers consumers, you no longer have to go to an office to file for an SR22 application. A lot of online SR22 insurance carriers would even allow you to get an SR22 insurance policy without having to call any number since most transactions can be completed on the Web. But what makes most SR22 insurance companies and portals online very attractive is the prospect of being able to get your drivers license back much in lesser time.

New Jersey, like most states requiring SR22, would not re-instate your driving privileges unless you fulfill this requirement. Many people would agree that not being able to drive their cars to work can be a big hassle, or even a downright nightmare. For professional drivers, it could mean lost income. Being able to find a company that can get you back on the road as quickly as possible is not only a god-send, these days its quite a necessity.
